Why Our Department at Bethel?
Bethel is the only Christian university to integrate sociology, anthropology, and reconciliation studies in a single department—bringing a depth to our programs that’s unmatched anywhere else.
Here are a few highlights:
- Pioneer program in reconciliation studies. Our reconciliation studies major is unique to Bethel with its focus on diversity, conflict mediation, social justice, and reconciliation theology.
- Professors teach from experience. Our professors worked in the field whether through missions, urban development, or cross-cultural placements—and they’re all committed to teaching and mentoring students.
- Students get out of the classroom. Our students get hands-on training through actual experiences in real communities.
- Social justice focus. The entire department holds a strong commitment to social justice at global, national, institutional, and community levels.
- Friendly environment. We’re known for our interactive and supportive atmosphere among faculty and students.
- Great location. The twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are both within 5 miles of campus.
- Annual reconciliation conference. We’re approaching the third year of our annual Moberg Reconciliation Conference, which gives students the chance to present their research and hear from other experts in the field.
