Preparing students for success in diverse scientific fields.

The Department of Chemistry offers academic excellence in a supportive environment, preparing graduates for careers or continued study in diverse scientific fields. We strive to honor God through the study of chemistry and the liberal arts, training graduates for future success and leadership. Chemistry is theoretical yet practical, emphasizing analytical skills, creativity, and problem solving.

Our 9 full-time Ph.D. faculty members are active researchers and experts in all the major areas of chemistry, including analytical chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry. Three members of the department have doctorates in biochemistry.

Additionally, our faculty are committed to mentoring students and offering a fun, supportive, and challenging environment, preparing students for life and employment beyond the college years. All majors in the department collaborate with professors on two significant, original research projects, presenting their results at local, regional, and national meetings. Students and professors also build relationships through courses, labs, research projects, seminars, and ChemClub activities.

We have an excellent track record of alumni success. Many of our alumni have advanced to graduate and medical schools across the country. Others have become chemistry teachers or are working in various scientific fields. The department hosts events throughout the year offering alumni the opportunity to return to Bethel to meet current students and offer advice.
