| At a tea party attended by four deluded madwomen of Paris, Countess Aurelia brings to the others' attention the despicable plans of a group of wealthy and unscrupulous financiers to tear up their community with reckless abandon in order to drill for oil. Following “reasonable protocol and due process”, a trial is held in which all the wicked of the world are called to account for their greed and inhumanity. A ragpicker agrees to act as the defense attorney while an assortment of other vagabonds become judge and jury. Produced on Broadway in 1948, this comic fable has as much social and economic relevance in our materialistic world today as it did then. Enter into the absurd world of the Madwoman with caution as it may lead to counter-cultural influence. |
