Language Testing

Students who have had one year or less of any foreign language in high school do NOT need to take any language exams before coming to Bethel.

Language Placement Test*

Students who have completed two or more years of French, German, or Spanish in high school and who plan to take a course in the same language at Bethel must take the language placement test so that they can be enrolled in the course that is most appropriate for their language skills. The placement test is available online at http://cas.bethel.edu/dept/mw-languages/placement and must be completed by May 31, 2008.

Language Skills Test

(To meet Bethel’s language requirement by examination)
Students who have completed three or more years of French, German, or Spanish in high school with a grade of C or better may take Bethel’s Language Skills Test (LST) to fulfill Bethel’s language requirement by examination—instead of taking a course. Students who choose this option should plan on taking the LST at Bethel as part of New Student Welcome (Saturdays only) or during Welcome Week in the fall.

* Because the placement test evaluates a limited range of language skills and is taken by students in an unsupervised setting, it cannot be used in place of the more rigorous Language Skills Test.
