You: Parent's Checklist
How should you be aiding your high school freshman/sophomore?
- Make special note of classes that your child excels in as well as
classes they especially enjoy. This list may be a good indicator of
a future major.
- Help your child learn good study skills. Starting freshman year of high
school, grades count toward the GPA that colleges consider at the time
your student applies.
- Talk about the future and listen to their thoughts and plans.
- Make a long list of all college possibilities.
- Attend parent-specific admissions
events to get your questions answered.
How should you be aiding your high school junior?
- Whittle down the college options to create a list of no more than
10-12 favorites.
- Research each of these colleges in detail. Pay special
attention to admissions requirements.
- Encourage a campus
visit to the top schools.
- Schedule an ACT and/or SAT test
during your student’s junior year depending on what your top schools
require. Bethel accepts both the ACT and SAT but requires only one. The
writing portion is not required.
How should you be aiding your high school senior?
- Visit or
re-visit your top schools.
- Continue to whittle down the list to the top 3-5
schools.
- Submit 2-4 applications.
Pay special attention to varying deadlines at different schools. Bethel’s
early deadline is November 1, but we continue to receive applications
throughout the spring as space is available.
