INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division III Women’s Track and Field Committee, which governs cross country as well, announced today the team and individual qualifiers for the 2008 Division III Women’s Cross Country Championships. Among the teams earning an at-large bid to compete in the championship race is Bethel University, making it the first time the Royals will be represented as a team at the meet.
In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals must qualify in their respective NCAA regions. The Royals finished fourth in the Central Region on Saturday, thanks to a first place individual finish by 2007 NCAA Cross Country All-American, Marie Borner (Jr., Cottage Grove, Minn.), as well as All-Region performances by Heather Jelen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.), and Alex Potter (So., Windom, Minn.).
Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in the championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 16 teams. Sixteen additional teams were selected at-large.
