Campus Ministries

Matt Runion

Where did you grow up/go to school?
I grew up “in a pastor’s home” (in other words, we moved around a bit) in Illinois, North Dakota, and South Dakota. I graduated from University of Sioux Falls.

What is your current position at Bethel and for how long?
I’m currently associate campus pastor and I work closely with our short term mission programs (interim, spring break, and summer mission teams), our biblical justice groups (World Challenge and Acting on AIDS). I’m also pleased to lead the Bethel delegation to the Urbana 09 student missions conference in December 2009. I’ve been in Campus Ministries since 2002.

What is your family like? (Spouses, kids, pets)
I live with my wife Amy (we’ve been married since April 2001) and Kate and Levi (5 year old twins) in south Minneapolis. We love our neighborhood, our church, and our community.

What is your favorite college memory?
I can’t narrow it down to one, but most of my favorite college memories center around travel and road trips: backpacking around London, mission trips to Chicago or Mexico, mountain biking in Utah, road trip to Texas, camp counseling in the Black Hills.

When not at Bethel, what can you be found doing? (Interests, hobbies, etc.)
If I’m not working on my Doctor of Ministry research, you could probably find me on a bike trail with my kids in the trailer behind me and my wife a little ahead of me. We’re probably on our way to one of Minneapolis’ beautiful lakes, on our way to get ice cream, or on our way to a park. After the bike ride, we’ll be headed home to host friends for a meal in our cozy backyard. Chances are good we’ll be having popcorn on the stovetop for a “bedtime snack.”
