Anabaptist Sociology and Anthropology Association

Anabaptist Sociology and Anthropology Association

ASAA head

The purpose of the ASAA shall be to promote contact and fellowship between two groups of people: a) those social scientists interested in studying Anabaptist groups, and b) those social scientists affiliated with an Anabaptist-related group. These people may include sociologists, anthropologists, and people working in fields using these perspectives (social work, communications, etc.) .

Membership is open to anyone interested. A meeting of the membership will be held about every two years, often in conjunction with a conference that is likely to be of interest to ASAA members. Members present at any such official meeting will constitute a quorum for elections and other business.

The steering committee will be composed of a chair, a member services person, a secretary/treasurer, and "at large" members. A normal term on the committee will be four years. Committee members will be replaced or reaffirmed after four years, on a rotating basis. The current steering committee will function as a nominating committee, soliciting input from the membership and presenting nominees for vote or affirmation at the member meeting.

Dues for membership will be set by agreement of members present at the member meetings. Dues may be waived for students and for those experiencing financial hardship. Current regular dues are $20 per calendar year, due annually by April 1st. (Benefactor $50; Sustaining Member $100). TO JOIN OR RENEW, GO TO MEMBER SERVICES.

  • James Hurd, Chair, Bethel University (MN)
  • Daniel Liechty, Member Services, Illinois State University
  • Karen Johnson-Weiner, Treasurer, SUNY Potsdam, NY
  • Kerry Strayer, Otterbein College, OH
