Bethel Students Present at the Minnesota Academy of Sciences/TriBeta District convention A large contingent of Bethel Biology and Chemistry students presented the results of their research at the 2006 MAS/TriBeta district convention at Macalester College this past weekend, April 28-29. Nine biology students gave oral presentations with an additional 7 biochemistry and biology students presenting posters. Several students were recognized for their excellent research and presentations including biology students Munya Chimukangara, Brett Einerson, Scott Kronholm and Tyler Kutscheid. Bethel students received 5 of the 10 possible awards given for student presentations. Tyler won 1st in the Ecology section for the Minnesota Academy, as well as a 1st place in the TriBeta Johnson award in the Ecology section. Brett won 2nd in the Cell and Molecular catagory, and Scott won 3rd in the Ecology section, both also Johnson awards. Munya won the 2nd place Frank G. Brooks award for TriBeta in the Organismic catagory. 1st and 2nd place winners are eligible to present at the national convention at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida, May 24-28 and will receive a stipend to help cover expenses. Congratulations to all who presented!

Dr. Jeff Port and students Rachel Spike and Tyler Kutscheid presented the results of their summer research "THE BURNING QUESTION: HOW DO PRESCRIBED BURNS IMPACT SMALL MAMMAL AND BIRD POPULATIONS ON RESTORED PRAIRIES?"
