Ph.D. University of Alberta Canada

M.S. University of the Philippines

B.S. University of the Philippines

Dr. Apostol is the newest member of the biology department. This fall will be his first semester here at Bethel. His research interests center on the whole-plant physiology and the interactions between plants and the environment. The majority of Dr. Apostol’s research involves measuring seedling physiology using variety of techniques such as gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence measurements using infrared gas analyzers (e.g. LI-6200, LI-6400), shoot water potential and root water flow using Scholander's pressure bomb, seedling nutrient status, root oxygen uptake, and electrolyte leakage test to predict cold hardiness development and dormancy status.

Dr. Apostol did postdoctoral research at Purdue University. This research was primarily focused on aspects related to forest seedling fitness for reforestation- how seedlings from nurseries respond to stress factors which may inhibit early seedling development following transplanting.  His work included species from the Great Lakes region, the Gulf Coast, the Pacific Northwest and the central US.

Dr. Apostol teaches BIO366 Plant Physiology, BIO101D Principles of Biology, GES326K Economic Botany, and BIO499 Biology Symposium.
