Before coming to Bethel this past fall, Dr. Van Berkom spent 17 years practicing in the field of veterinary medicine. Eleven of those years were spent in mixed animal private practice, where he was able to work on a wide variety of animals from pets to livestock. After selling his practice in 2001, he accepted a position as a veterinary medical officer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In this role he assisted states in eradication of livestock diseases and emergency animal disease and disaster planning. Dr. Van Berkom has a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota. He also has a Master of Veterinary Science with an emphasis in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. |
