Dr. Joy Doan
Assistant Professor of Biology

AC123

Email: j-doan@bethel.edu Ph.D.University of Wisconsin, 1999 B.A. Albion College, 1995

Dr. Doan joined the biology department in 2004. Her training and primary interest is in cell and molecular biology. After receiving her doctorate in medical microbiology and immunology, Dr. Doan did post-doctoral research at National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver, CO where she studied molecular events involved in the regulation of Tumor Necrosis Factor signaling by lipid rafts in macrophages.

Her research interests include the continued investigation of the involvement of plasma membrane lipid rafts in the immunologic response of macrophages to pathogen-associated molecular patterns. Her main areas of interest include: (i) the composition of plasma membrane lipid rafts in macrophages; (ii) the role of lipid rafts in regulating pathogen-induced signaling events in macrophages; (iii) the role of lipid rafts in altering pathogen-induced changes in macrophage cell function.

Among the courses that Dr. Doan teaches are BIO103 Human Biology, BIO112 Introduction to Molecular and Cellular Biology, and BIO341 Cell Biology, BIO399 Introduction to Research and BIO499 Biology Seminar.
