Dr. Kistler currently has multiple roles at Bethel University.  In his primary role he serves as the Lead Faculty Instructional Technology Consultant, working with faculty on the integration of technology into the teaching and learning process across the University. As part of this role, Dr. Kistler also manages Blackboard, Bethel's learning management system. Dr. Kistler continues to teach in several programs, including Environmental Studies/Science and Business in both the College of Arts & Sciences and the College of Adult & Professional Studies, and also in the Post-Secondary Teaching Certificate and the MBA programs in the Graduate School. Dr. Kistler also serves on the Bethel Green Council and as National Webmaster for Sigma Zeta Math & Science Honor Society.

Dr. Kistler's research interests are in insect ecology, fish and plankton communities, environmental stewardship, sustainable living, and computers as learning tools. Dr. Kistler assisted in the development of the Environmental Studies major at Bethel and served as its director from 1991 to Fall 2001 when Dr. Kistler was appointed Bethel's first Senior Lead Instructional Technology Consultant. In 2000 Dr. Kistler was awarded the Bethel Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Dr. Kistler current teaching involvement includes BUS105 Information Technology and Applications (Fall 2005), ENS305KX Transforming Technology (Fall 2005), COM622X On-line Teaching, ENS102D Environment & Humanity (Spring 2006), ENS205F Sustainable Living (Spring 2006), and BUS620 Environmental Perspectives in Business Management (Fall 2006).
