Internship, Volunteer Opportunities

Internships, part-time jobs, cooperative education, volunteer positions during the college career are often key to getting post-graduate positions and career opportunities.  Below are a sample of what some past students (2006-2008) have done.  Further current opportunities can be seen on bulletin boards in the biology department and on the internship link on the biology web page.  Planning early is key to gaining positions.  Many applications need to be in by February or March.  Some such as Students International positions should be in by mid fall term.

	Brent Bauman Medical Internship in the Dominican Republic over spring break.  Volunteer. Must apply in the fall with Campus Ministries.  Now at Medical School		Jessalyn Becknell Internfhip at Underwater World during the school year. Volunteer
	Christine Benedix Summer Internship at R & D Systems (Molecular biology research) completed her senior research there.  Paid position.  Apply by Feb.		Allison Blomberg Medical Scribe position during the school year at Mercy Hospital.  Follow Dr. in the ER. take notes on diagnosis and treatment and convert to computer log Paid position
	Brad Carlson Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Sam Huston University. Completed his senior research and a published paper.  Paid position. Apply in early spring		Andrew Carmichael Medical Internship in the Dominican Republic with Students International over spring break.  Apply in October.
	Brett Einerson Internship in bio materials at 3M.  Paid position during the school year (10-15 hrs/ week).  Now at Medical School.		Kevin Halstrom Internship with Lens Crafters during the school year.  Volunteer position. Now in Optometry School.
	Eric Hull Summer internship at Medtronics in bio materials.  Completed his senior research. Paid position. Now in Dental School.		Jeremiah Johnson Summer Medical Missions experience in Camaroon, West Aftrica.
	Crista Johnson Weldon Jones Summer Research project at Bethel completed her senior research.  Paid position for 10 weeks in the summer.  Apply in March.		Nate Johnson DNR Summer internship Paid position.  Apply in the spring.  Now working at Medtronics.
	Neil Johnson Medical Internship in the Dominican Republic over spring break.  Working for ACR homes for the disabled. Paid position.  Volunteer in the E.R. at Unity Hospital. 	Pete Johnson Summer Internship on the Wolf Project in Northern Minnesota.  Paid position.		Ben Jorgenson Mayo summer internship.  Completed his senior research.  Paid position. Apply in Feb.
	Lisa Lagoo Summer internship at Medtronics completed her senior research. Graduate degree in Forensic Medicine.		Melissa Lasch Summer DNR  internship on invasive species survey.  Now works at the MN DNR.
