The Department of Biological Sciences offers six major degree programs: the bachelor of science in biology; the bachelor of arts in biology; the bachelor of science in biochemistry and molecular biology; the bachelor of arts in life science education 5-12; the bachelor of arts in environmental studies; and the bachelor of science in environmental science. Each major has unique career directed applications. For example, if you're interested in pursuing a career in medicine, the B.S. in biology major includes in its structure all the courses required for premedical study by any medical school in the United States or Canada. Likewise, the life science education major prepares you for licensure to teach biology in grades 5-12. With a level of personal attention and concern not found at larger schools, Bethel University will prepare you for most any biological or biomedical career. The Department of Biological Sciences at Bethel University seeks to instill in students an appreciation and understanding of the complexities of life and to integrate this understanding with their Christian faith.We desire to educate students in a variety of biological subdisciplines such that our students may contribute both their academic and Christian values to many biological careers. Our students are trained in the three major subdisciplies of biology: cell and molecular, organismal, and environmental. We also provide students with the opportunity to obtain more specialized training in a specific area of interest. Our goal is to educate students to become competent at biological investigation, collection and analysis ofdata, critical thinking, oral and written expression, and understanding and discussing ethical issues within the discipline. Students are prepared for a variety of graduate and medical programs as well as for employment in industry, education, or government.
