THE PROGRAM

Bethel University recently added a business education licensure program in both its undergraduate College of Arts & Sciences and its Graduate School. Students can either major in Business Education as an undergraduate student and graduate with a Bachelor of Arts, or they could major in Business as an undergraduate, graduate with a Bachelor of Arts, and immediately (upon acceptance) begin their Master of Arts in Teaching at Bethel’s Graduate School. Both paths lead to a 5-12 license to teach business education courses at the middle and high school level.

The Bachelor of Arts in Education degree includes a rigorous and broad study of business topics including economics, accounting, marketing, management, and technology. This is combined with education courses, field experiences, a portfolio requirement, and student teaching at both the middle and high school levels. Students must also complete a business internship which provides real-world business experience, vital to teaching business education.

Bethel has a rich history of educating public and private school teachers within its Christian liberal arts framework. Its education program is accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). In addition, it is approved by the Minnesota Board of Teaching, having met the standards set by the State of Minnesota through a rigorous review process.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The job outlook in this field is strong; as of June 2007 there are several job openings in business education in the state of Minnesota, mainly due to teacher retirements. All of our business education graduates have either gotten or are in the process of interviewing for business education jobs.

Teaching business may be ideal for those who love business and want to share their passion with young people. Business teachers teach courses such as marketing, accounting, computer applications, personal finance, and business law, and are often involved with co-curricular organizations such as DECA.

BETHEL BUSINESS & ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION

The Bethel Business & Economics Association can be a vital part of your educational, professional, and community experience at Bethel. This student-led association helps develop a spirit of friendship and cooperation among students in all business and economics disciplines via organized site tours, campus presentations, and social gatherings.

BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIPS

There are a variety of scholarships available for business students. Scholarships are primarily awarded based on academic achievement. See the Department’s website for further information at:
