Associate Professor of Business

Dr. Karen Tangen brings a great deal of experience from both the public and private sectors to the classes she teaches. She has served as a State Director of Health, State Director of Education, and has held positions in two Fortune 100 companies. She earned her PhD form the University of Chicago, Masters from Tufts University, and a BS from the University of Minnesota.

Karen’s expertise is exemplified in teaching courses such as Principles of Marketing, Global Marketing, Advertising & Sales Promotion, International Business, and Sales Management. Karen’s passion for international studies, especially Asia, has helped her in developing a business program and bringing students to China.

Karen’s serves on the board of directors for Children’s Home & Family Services and also the Union Gospel Mission. She has one son at the Air Force Academy, another at Minnehaha Academy, and a daughter at the University of Chicago. She enjoys a cabin bordering the Boundary Waters, and all sports (including the Twins).

When asked for her thoughts about being at Bethel, Karen replied, “I am humbled by the opportunity to serve our students and hopefully inspire them to reach out and impact their communities and the world.”
