EUROPE BUSINESS TRIP - INTERIM 2008

This interim class, Introduction to International Business (BUS202Z), is both a business elective and a cross-cultural experience course. Students will broaden their knowledge of international business as they travel to various cities and countries in Europe. Students enrolled in this course for January 2009 will travel to Amsterdam, Paris, Nurnberg, Brussels, Salzburg, and Venice. Students are also permitted to have a free travel weekend, in which they are free to travel to any location of their choice.

In this course students will spend time learning about cultural and business differences between the U.S. and Europe through site visits to businesses, textbook readings, and group discussions. Students will also have time to explore the cities and visit museums, churches, castles, and more. Assignments will be reflective of students’ experiences on the trip.

Approximately twenty-nine student applications are accepted per term, and two business professors travel with and lead these students. While preference in acceptance is given to juniors and seniors and students majoring in international business, there are often non-business majors accepted on the trip as well. Students who are not the first twenty-nine selected are placed on a waiting list, so they still have a chance of being able to go.

Although the 2009 trip is already full, students may apply for the 2010 trip by going to the Office of International Studies and filling out an application beginning in April 2009. The application requires a $100 deposit which is refundable before October 1. The cost of the program varies depending on the exchange rate and is often not much more expensive than taking an interim course at Bethel.

This course is highly recommended for business majors as it is a once in a life time experience that cannot be simulated in a class room alone. Employers highly value international experience, especially today as many businesses operate firms in multiple countries. Start planning now and contact the Office of International Studies in CC320 or business professor Bethany Opsata in AC219 if you are interested!
