So why redo the website?
Basically, it was time. There were some CSS problems with the old website that would make some text too small to read. I've tried to solve those problems on this version.
I notice lots of lists - is this intentional?
Yes, it is. The webmaster has been reading lots of CSS books, and was influenced by Andy Clarke's book Transcending CSS: The Fine Art of Web Design. Clarke's idea, which I completely agree with, is to use semantic HTML as much as possible. Jesse Skinner follows along Clarke's ideas; you'll see what I'm going for if you look at his website.
Simply put, semantic HTML makes it easier to digest the information found here, whether you're a sighted user or not.
So, is accessibility still important?
Absolutely! I wouldn't be a member of GAWDS (the Guild of Accessible Web Designers) if I didn't believe that. It's not that the previous version isn't accessible; I believe that this version is more accessible than the previous version. For those who are so interested, I believe this site to be at least at the AA level according to WCAG, and I believe it to also be Section 508 compliant. More details can be found on the accessibility page.
So is the logo the new official NFA logo?
No. To my knowledge, there is no official NFA logo. But the site needed one, so I created it. You'll recognize it - it's both the public address and interpretation portions of our activity. I'd have added a few extemp tubs as well, but my graphic skills aren't that good. :) That said, if anyone would like to contribute a better logo, I'm sure the NFA Executive Council would be most pleased.
Why did it take you so long?
Well, I went through a couple of different designs, and then had to convert 270+ pages to the new design. Unfortunately, there was no way to do it automatically; each page had to be hand-edited. And as you might suspect, it took a while to do all of that (easily in the triple digits in the number of hours). I hope you'll like it better than the other version. You should have seen some of the junk codes that have built up over the last 10 years I've been webmaster; it was time to just clean everything up. Thanks for your patience with the redesign - it's hard to do while trying to be a DOF, a department chair, and national tournament director.
