NPDA Website Privacy Policy
The following is the privacy policy of the NPDA Website:
1. Collection of identifiable information: The website does not make use of cookies. Currently, only one type of transaction is logged: the submission of data through forms available on the site. The information collected is as follows:
- Message ID of the message (from the Bethel servers)
- The IP address from which the submission request was generated.
- The type of browser that was used (i.e., Mozilla/4.72 [en] (WinNT) means that the request came from someone using Netscape 4.72 on Windows NT)
- The information specifically input into the form (i.e., tournament sanctioning requests)
At this time, the NPDA webmaster is not using any other means of collecting information about individual users to the website. No cookies are currently being collected. Any such request would first be filtered through the Executive Council and the Publications Committee of the NPDA, at whose pleasure the webmaster serves. Changes to this policy would be conveyed through broadcasts over npda-l, parli-l, and through written communication to all members of the NPDA, as well as through this webpage.
2. Distribution of information: Currently, information such as tournament submission is intended to be broadcast to the NPDA as well as the forensics communities. As such, it is assumed that submission of forms such as sanctioning forms constitutes assent to be placed on the website. The information posted that would be typically included in forensics calendars includes: Name of tournament and tournament host, tournament director and contact information, events hosted, and restrictions on entries. Also, a membership form should be expected to be copied to the Executive Secretary as well as the President, Treasurer, and/or Tournament Director. All forms on this website indicate who will receive the form submission.
If you do not agree with this policy, or have a question about how a particular form is used, please contact the webmaster.
3. Reasonable access to collected data: Should a person want a copy of the form or data she or he has submitted, please contact the webmaster.
4. Mailing lists: Currently, there are two mailing lists, one sanctioned by NPDA, and one not officially sanctioned by NPDA.
- NPDA-L, which is based at Bethel University, is an opt-in list created by the NPDA. Dr. Michael Dreher is the listowner. Subscribers are not added automatically; the request to subscribe must be generated by the individual subscriber. List subscriber information is currently known only to the NPDA webmaster and members of the Academic Computing staff at Bethel University who help to administer the list. In the latter case, knowledge of individual subscribers is typically limited to the completion of a successful subscription request, or error messages generated by the list that would be necessary for debugging purposes. Subscribers names are not forwarded to or are part of other lists.
- PARLI-L, which is based at Willamette University, is hosted by Dr. Robert Trapp, and is not officially sanctioned by the NPDA. Subscription policies are similar to the NPDA-L, however, interested parties should contact Dr. Trapp directly for more information.
