Dr. Alsdurf joined the Bethel faculty in 2003. She received a B.A. from Evangel University in 1972, an M.A. in journalism from Kansas State University in 1974, an M.A. in humanities from Western Kentucky University in 1977, and a Ph.D. in journalism from the University of Minnesota in 2004. Her professional interest is in the area of media and religion and journalism history. She served as editor of Family Life Today magazine for six years and was director of publications at Bethel for five years prior to joining the English Department faculty.

Dr. Becknell joined the Bethel faculty in 1984. He received his B.A. from Wheaton College in 1974, and his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1983. His professional interest in the field of English is American Literature.

Ms. Brooks joined Bethel's faculty in 1998. She received her B.A. from Bethel College in 1986 and her M.A. from Mankato State University in 1994. She is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Minnesota, hoping to finish in 2009. Her favorite class is Juvenile Literature, because of the fun books she gets to read; and her favorite part of teaching English is "seeing people change from students to teachers and watching them go out and successfully go out and serve God in English classrooms all over the world".

Dr. Bruce joined the Bethel faculty in 2005. He holds a BA in English Literature and Writing from Bethel University, a MA in Literature from Colorado State University, and a PhD in English and Medieval Studies from the University of Iowa. He has recently published several articles in the area of Medieval English Literature, and one on Graduate Study of English.

What he loves most about Medieval British Literature is the energy and intensity of the literature; and he loves helping students to experience it with him.

Dr. Horstman joined the Bethel faculty in 1998. He received his B.A. from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA in 1987, his M.A. from DePaul University in 1989, and his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1997. His professional interests in English include Contemporary/Postmodern literature.

Dr. Larson joined the Bethel faculty in 1986. She received her BA in English Literature from Wheaton College, and her PhD in English from the University of Minnesota. Recently she has published articles in areas related to interfaith dialogue and faculty development.

Her favorite thing about teaching English is getting to read and think about books that are so different from daily life, yet hold so many important connections; and she loves doing this with faculty and students who also enjoy it.

Dr. Ritchie joined Bethel's faculty in 1985. He received his B.A. from Amherst College in 1978, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Rutgers University (1980, 1985). Ritchie serves on Minnesota's Non-Public Education Council, which provides a communication and advisory role between the Commissioner of Education and the state's non-public schools.

Ms. Shannon is the author of the poetry book Singing the Bones Together. Her poems have been published in a variety of journals and anthologies including Where One Ends Another Begins: 150 Years of Minnesota Poetry; Beyond the Frontier: African American Poetry for the 21st Century; and the textbook A Multicultural Reader, Collection One: Many Voices Literature Series. Professor Shannon's choreopoem Root Woman premiered at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Theater in Evanston, IL. She holds a B.A. degree from Florida State University and an M.F.A. degree from Warren Wilson College.

Dr. Taylor joined Bethel's faculty in 1977. He received his B.A. from Westmont College in 1970, his M.A. from Emory University in 1974, and his Ph.D. from Emory University in 1974. He speaks frequently at conferences, colleges, retreats, and churches on a wide variety of topics. He is also co-founder of The Legacy Center, an organization devoted to helping individuals and organizations identify and preserve the values and stories that have shaped their lives.
