The "Great Cloud of Witnesses"

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2, TNIV)

Since CWC began, its faculty have often invoked this famous passage of Scripture. The author of the letter to the Hebrews (in ch. 11) held up Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, and other men and women of faith to encourage 1st century Christians in running their "race"; we hope to do the same in telling the stories of Perpetua, Tertullian, Augustine, Hildegard, Erasmus, Calvin, Pascal, and other Christians from "the West."

Our prayer is that our students, after they finish CWC, will then become witnesses to others and encourage their friends, family members, and co-workers to fix their eyes on Jesus Christ and "run with perseverance."
