Course Description: GES106 Introduction to the Liberal Arts (ILA)

  • Introduction to the Liberal Arts introduces students to a liberal arts education at Bethel as a foundation for scholarship, leadership, and service in a changing world. Students will be oriented to campus resources related to academics and encourage the development of personal, academic and relationship skills needed to be a successful college student. It also serves as a support to students in their transition to college life at Bethel with an emphasis on those things that influence and support the academic challenges. There are no prerequisites to take this course. This one credit course is a graduation requirement.

Learner Outcomes: As a result of the course activities and assignments, students should:

  • Begin to develop an understanding of what it means to participate in a Christian liberal arts education at Bethel University;
  • Begin to develop a sense of connection to the Bethel community through the development of relationships with a faculty and peers in the classroom;
  • Begin to identify, assess, and develop skills and character traits needed to enhance their ability to manage the many facets of college life;
  • Begin to know of the variety of support services Bethel offers to students to achieve their calling and goals.
 

Course Description: GES108 Introduction to Life at Bethel (ILB)

Introduction to Life at Bethel introduces transfer students to a liberal arts education at Bethel as a foundation for scholarship, leadership, and service in a changing world. Together students explore common issues of transition, personal strengths, and community. Students are oriented to resources (i.e. essential technology, Bethel Library, academic tutoring, career services, etc.) to support and enhance the educational experience at Bethel.

Learner Outcomes: As a result of the course activities and assignments, students should:

  • Begin to develop an understanding of what it means to participate in a Christian liberal arts education at Bethel University;
  • Begin to develop a sense of connection to the Bethel community through the development of relationships with a faculty and peers in the classroom;
  • Begin to identify, assess, and develop skills and character traits needed to enhance their ability to manage the many facets of college life;
  • Begin to know of the variety of support services Bethel offers to students to achieve their calling and goals.
