research program in the Department of Novel Materials, researching
applications to magnetic sensing.
- Laura Richards worked at the West Publishing Company (now called West Group) in Eagan, MN.
- Jon Beck worked
for 3M in Maplewood, MN. He was a tech aide in the Electronic Article
Surveillance Department, which is part of the Safety and Security
Division.
- Kim Eide worked in the Bethel College Physics
Department (in conjuction with Macalester College) as an Assistant Lab
Coordinator. She designed, wrote, and implemented Physics Laboratories
for two summer courses in Introductory Physics for Pre-Med majors.
- Jenney Loper
worked in the Fabrication Area at Superconducting Core Technologies in
Golden, Colorado. She provided support for the engineers growing thin
film High Temperature Superconductors (STO & YBCO) using the PLD
(Pulsed Laser Deposition) system. She tested the critical temperature,
surface resistance, cleaned the wafers for distribution, and measured
the thickness of the films (all of this for single and double sided
films and small and large wafers). She worked in a clean room
environment most of the time, which required her to get dressed and
undressed about 10-20 times a day! She also built an electronic control
box to animate the second PLD system (which arrived three weeks before
she left). When the second system arrived, she and the other interns
assembled it and attached many of the components. She also tested the
accuracy of a 56Hz resonator to be used in testing large film surface
resistance.
