Physics Department
Our students are strongly encouraged to get technical job experience during the summer months. Usually we hire a couple of students to help us with our research at Bethel, but many students do internships elsewhere. Since the summer of '97, more than 70 physics and engineering majors have been employed at more than two dozen places throughout the country. The internships were at a wide range of companies, government agencies, and universities including such prestigious organizations as CERN (Geneva, Switzerland), Princeton Plasma Physics Lab, Medtronic, University of Washington, Argonne National Lab, Michigan State University, Cray Research, 3M, Arecibo Observatory (Puerto Rico), Anderson Consulting, Aspen Research, Kodak, Cornell University, Delta Industrial, NASA Goddard, the University of Alaska, and the Office of Naval Intelligence. Seventeen of these internships were national awards funded by the National Science Foundation or NASA. Many students were promised permanent employment after the completion of their degree, but all profited immensely from the opportunity to gain valuable work experience using their Bethel education.
