The Electronics Lab is in almost constant use during the fall semester. Most physics and engineering students take Electronics during the first semester of their sophomore year. It is a very lab intensive course. Students spend about six hours every week in the lab actually building the circuits they are learning about. The idea is to provide the most practical and useful course possible in the science and art of actually doing electronics. Class sizes usually range from 9 to 18 with half the students in lab at a time. The equipment used is research grade and a major goal of the course is to develop proficiency in the use of electronics instrumentation. Because most scientists and engineers rely heavily on electronics, it is important that our students have a basic, practical knowledge of electronics and its use. During the spring semester, unless there is a special project going on, the lab is used as a seminar room and study space. |
