Physics Department
The
Laser Lab and the Optics Lab both see the most use during our two
optically oriented courses taught in alternate years - namely PHY330
(Optics) and PHY405 (Topics in Contemporary Optics).
The Laser
Lab normally houses several specialized laser systems, including a
50-watt CO2 continuous laser, a high precision tunable external cavity
feedback stabilized diode system, a frequency-doubled 400 mW green
laser, and a tunable dye laser. The lab utilizes one of three physics
department research quality, air-supported optics tables and is well
equipped with modern photonics tools (high-speed detectors, receivers,
mounts, etc.) to accompany the laser systems. Like most of our labs,
the Laser Lab includes permanent desk and computer/study space for at
least two students.
