Faculty Excellence Award in Teaching 2008

Brian Holland

Brian Holland
Associate Professor of Business

Brian Holland came to Bethel in 1984, and in his 23 years of teaching has
demonstrated commitment to, and excellence in, teaching. He is described by
colleagues as creative and innovative, constantly searching for better methods
to teach his discipline. His goal as a teacher is to develop ethical, deeply
spiritual business men and women who will live out a life of ministry in the
business world. Holland's faith is inseparable from his knowledge of finance
and teaching, exposing students to a robust Christianity that is at the heart
of all his interactions. Holland regularly hosts a Bible study for Bethel seniors
to help them transition to their next phase of life. A master of interpersonal
communication with students, Holland's teaching does not stop at the
classroom door. His cultivation of relationships provides positive returns for
students as he helps them network for internships and jobs. Holland has been
praised for his management and mentorship of adjunct professors, meeting
with, assessing, and training the many working people who teach courses in
the department.

Faculty Excellence Award in Service 2008

Neal Dutton

Neal Dutton
Associate Professor Physical Education

Neal Dutton, a long-time athletic trainer and former head baseball coach, has
been treating the injuries of Bethel athletes for more than 27 years. His motto

has always been to "teach others to be a light in this sometimes dark world."
In 2005, he was honored by the Minnesota Athletic Trainers Association
(MATA) for his service to the organization. He received the MATA Hall of
Fame Award, the highest honor an athletic trainer can receive in the state of
Minnesota, for his many years of service in promoting the field of athletic
training. Dutton is described by his colleagues as a tireless worker who
holds others accountable through his example and excellence, having built
one of the best athletic training programs in the nation at Bethel. Through
his outstanding efforts, Bethel alumni are now serving God's community by
implementing what Dutton has taught them in the field of athletic training.
