History of College of Arts & Sciences Faculty Excellence Awards

A small group of Bethel faculty got together and decided that there was a lot of noteworthy stuff being done by faculty around Bethel that was going unnoticed. Now, most faculty do what faculty do for reasons other than getting noticed. But most faculty also would agree that a little bit of acknowledgement is nice every now and then.

And so a small faculty group received from the entire Bethel faculty approval to create an annual award for excellence in teaching. Almost as soon as the idea was conceived, it was realized that various faculties were involved in a lot of very noteworthy activities that were not, strictly speaking, of teaching nature. And so that first year, 1987, and most years since then, two awards have been given, one for excellence in teaching and another for distinguished service."
Then in 1991 a third award was created for outstanding achievement in scholarship.
