Psalm 143: 8-10 “Let the morning bring me
word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me
the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Rescue me from my
enemies, O Lord, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God’ may your good Spirit lead me on.”
During tutoring, you will tutor students from 1st grade to age 21. You will be tutoring at either elementary schools, churches, or alternative high schools. It is important to be committed to this job because the students will be depending on you for their tutoring needs. Bethel will provide all transportation to and from the locations and you will be able to choose where and when they would like to work.
Literacy Leaders is a great way for Bethel Students to go out into the community and serve. Beginning in 2004, Literacy Leaders started out with only 12 tutors. That number since then has grown to over 40 in just a year. Tutors may choose to work at three sites in the community, which are Maxfield Magnet School, Central Baptist Church, and Unidale Area Learning Center. Literacy Leader’s mission is to serve students in the Frogtown Summit-University (FSU) area through Bethel University student tutors and mentors in several classrooms and after school programs.
While working with youth at the tutoring sites in the Frogtown/Summit-U. community, tutors lives are enriched. The Literacy Leaders enhance the lives of the youth in the community through mentoring, friendship, and academic support. The Literacy Leaders program is funded by Federal work-study grants. This program is open to Bethel students who are eligible for work-study and those students who do not qualify for work-study but have a desire to tutor.
Here are some of the reasons why you should be a Literacy Leader Tutor:
