First Breath

I stood watching a miracle. I stood next to the doctor as the mother of this child gave birth to this precious baby boy. I watched as the baby gasped for his first breath, and then let out a loud scream – his very first cry. What an amazing gift from God! How privileged am I that I could be a part of something so beautiful? It was an incredible thing that I will never forget. There was so much to take in – health care in a developing country is so different than in the United States, and yet this baby boy was born and I was there to experience the miracle of a first breath.
