Outside the home of the Dalai Lama in exile, thousands of Buddhist prayer flags flap in the wind. Hung in order to petition the deities, these flags serve as a reminder of the need for prayer and to commemorate the plight of the people of Tibet. The Chinese people have systematically persecuted the Tibetan people, crushing their culture and religion. Thousands of Tibetans have fled their homeland for India in order to survive and have religious freedom. These prayer flags can be seen as a reminder for us, the rest of the world, to remember the travesties still experienced by Tibetans and to hold the Chinese government responsible for their gross human rights abuses.
