Program Description
Students attend the Wesley Institute (WI), a dynamic evangelical Christian community of people from a variety of vocations, locations, churches, languages and cultures. Enrolling in a course of study involves a commitment to personal development through study and fellowship with others who share a common goal: being equipped to undertake ministry opportunities in all walks of life.

Location
WI is located in Drummoyne, a beautiful suburb of Sydney located on the Parramatta River, just 10 minutes away from the city center. Students will receive a travel card, a pass allowing them to navigate the city on school-related travel. Sydney itself provides sights ranging from architectural landmarks to beaches, from museums to quaint neighborhoods. Come and experience the cosmopolitan lifestyle of this internationally-renowned harbor city!


Travel
The following excursions are included as part of the program cost:

  • Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves A two-day trip to experience limestone caves, the world’s steepest railway, a bush walk, and the chance to see the Three Sisters rock formation.
  • Gledwood Homestead A hands-on Aussie experience with activities including sheep shearing, wool classing, feeding kangaroos, and enjoying an Aussie BBQ lunch.
  • Koala Park  A day in a wildlife park with Australian animals, cuddle a Koala, talk to the birds, feed kangaroos and learn how to throw a boomerang.


Accommodations & Meals
Students live with other students in Australian student housing, providing a great setting for cultural interaction. Breakfast and dinner are provided.

Dates
Classes run from mid-July through mid-November. Dates for fall 2009 are listed below under “Important Dates.”


Cost
Students pay the equivalent of Bethel tuition, room (junior level), and full board (Royal meal plan). (For reference, this equaled $16,545 for Fall 2008.)  This includes tuition and fees, housing with two meals daily, local travel pass, three excursions, and roundtrip airfare (Minneapolis – Sydney). Financial aid applies (with the exception of work-study and Bethel performance scholarships, i.e. orchestra, forensics). Additional costs include passport, Australian student visa (approximately $300), immunizations, independent travel, and personal spending.
