How to Apply

How to apply for. . .

INTERIM

The application cycle for interim programs opens the week after spring break for the following January. Applications will be available at the annual “Interim Opportunity Fair” held the first week of April, and in the Office of Off-Campus Programs/International Studies (CC 320A). The application consists of:

1. Application form, including a signature from the Business Office
2. Student Life Approval form
3. $100 deposit (refundable until October 1 and if not accepted)

All three pieces must be in for the application to be considered complete. Many courses are filled on a first-come/first-serve basis, though others are up to the discretion of the faculty leader. Students who meet the priority deadline set the first week of May may be eligible for a $100 travel grant for their program (two awarded per course). The final deadline for interim applications is October 1.

SEMESTER

Semester offers the most variety in program options for Bethel students. Nine programs are currently offered which are considered “Bethel” programs, simply meaning that they are faculty-led programs or were developed in coordination with the Office of Off-Campus Programs/International Studies. These programs do not operate every semester. Bethel “Affiliated” programs (including programs operated by the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities) are also an option for students. Additionally, there are numerous “Non-affiliated” programs offered through outside program providers. Application procedures greatly vary among the programs, and are described below:

Bethel Programs—Applications typically due a year in advance, though late applications may be accepted on a space-available basis.

1. Application, including essays
2. $100 deposit
3. Two references
4. Student Life Approval
5. Minimum 2.5 GPA (2.7 for the NYCAMS program)
6. Art portfolio (NYCAMS only)

Affiliated AND Non-affiliated Programs—Applications will vary by program. For fall programs, applications are typically due in February or March. For spring programs, students will apply in October or November. The process will include:

1. Program application—This likely will include an application form and essays, an application fee, official transcript, at least one reference. Some programs require approval from a study abroad advisor or student affairs, signatures from deans or financial officers, passport-sized photos, etc. Applications greatly vary among programs, as do GPA requirements!
2. Bethel approval—Students participating in these programs will also need to be cleared by Bethel in order to participate. This includes a sheet with academic information, contact information, and business office clearance. Students also need to be cleared by student life and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Contact the Office of Off-Campus Programs/International Studies for more information on this process.

SUMMER

Currently Bethel does not operate any of our own summer study abroad programs. However, many program providers have options in several locations ranging in length from three or four weeks to a few months! Students are able to apply directly to the program (applications are either online or in the program’s catalog). Deadlines for summer are typically in March, though they vary among programs.
