Health Services

What is Bethel Health Services?

Our services exist to provide the student community with health care and information addressing their health needs and concerns. Our goal is to help students restore health when needed and prevent illness whenever possible in order to minimize health problems that could interfere with students’ academic goals. The staff is committed to helping students make informed health care decisions, working to achieve physical well-being while developing good health practices for a lifetime.

What kinds of services are offered?

A variety of medical services including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment are available at our office on campus. Consultation with a physician, nurse practitioner, or nurse is available at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Nurses and a Nurse practitioner are on site Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.  Students may visit a physician who is on campus once a week at designated hours.  A nurse is on call evenings, nights, and weekends.

  • Numerous over-the-counter medications are available free of charge, and selected prescription medications are provided at a minimal cost or no charge. (Medications for preexisting or chronic conditions are not included.)
  • Throat cultures are available at Health Services.
  • Other laboratory tests are sent out to a major hospital lab, with results being faxed promptly back to our office.
  • Allergy shots are given at designated times when the physician is present.
  • Tetanus/diphtheria boosters, Hepatitis B immunizations, and mantoux skin tests for tuberculosis are available at a minimal cost.
  • Annual vaccine clinics such as meningitis and flu shots are scheduled.
  • Equipment such as crutches, heating pads, cold packs, elastic wraps, and slings are available for loan or at no charge.
  • First aid kits are prepared for the residence halls as well as groups traveling off campus.
  • Consultation to groups or individuals planning international travel is available.
  • Health fairs and wellness activities such as aerobics classes are promoted and co-sponsored with other campus departments.
  • CPR classes are scheduled throughout the year.

  • Inform resident director or assistant when reasonably possible.

After Hours Urgent Care

Who pays for off-campus medical care?

Undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences are required to demonstrate they have health insurance with a minimum of $50,000 coverage for each accident or sickness.

This insurance can be through a family plan, an individual plan, or the accident and sickness plan Bethel provides through Student Assurance Services (SAS). If you're covered by a family or individual heath insurance plan, you must complete an online waiver to opt out of the plan Bethel is making available. Learn more about Bethel's health insurance policy and completing your online waiver.
