New Student Orientation 2009

SCHEDULE

Here you'll find the schedule of events. Some information may change a bit before you arrive, so check back often!

When you arrive on campus, you will be assigned a Core Group. On a few occasions you will be meeting in various room on campus.

Wednesday, August 26

Note: Activities for parents only are highlighted in red, for students only in blue, and for both in black.

  • 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Move-In (see schedule for details)
  • 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Parent Information Booth - (CC 3rd floor lounge).

    • After your student gets settled into his/her room, please pick up Welcome Week information at our booth.
  • 10 a.m. Campus Tours - meet in the Office of Admissions
  • 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Financial Aid/Business Offices open
  • noon-3 p.m. ID pictures taken - RC Gym balcony
  • 2 p.m. Campus Tours - meet in the Office of Admissions
  • 2-5:30 p.m. Student employee training sessions - Benson Great Hall
  • 5-7 p.m. PSEO Orientation - Eastlund Room
  • 7 p.m. Ultimate BINGO - Event for all early arrival students.

    • A special event for all early arrivals on campus! Join us on the South Lawn (outside the CLC) for a night of interactive games where you’ll have a chance to mingle, play games, enjoy some cool treats, and win great prizes. This is not your grandparent’s Bingo!
  • 8:30 p.m. Coming Together Concert - Underground

    • Join us for this kickoff concert by Faith and The Band as they rock The Underground with their Theo-Soul (mix of hip-hop/soul/rock) sound

Thursday, August 27

    • 10:30 a.m. Helping My Student Adjust to College Life - Vice President for Student Life

  • 9-10:30 a.m. Math Placement Exam and Pretest

    • Students enrolled in Pre-calculus or Calculus 1 for Fall '09 should go to CC 120 for testing, Math for El. Ed. students who need to take the pretest should go to CC 230. More information here.
  • 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. ID/Roster pictures taken - RC Gym balcony
  • 10:45-11:45 a.m. Departmental Overview I

    • REQUIRED: Learn more about your major, the General Education program, and meet your academic advisor. All students must attend the 10:45 a.m. session.
  • 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Introduction to the Liberal Arts (ILA)

    • Core Groups 1-20, 24, 34, 37 (except 3, 8, 12, 17)
  • 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Lunch

    • Core Groups 3, 8, 12, 17, 21-41 (except 24, 34, 37)
  • 12:45-1:45 p.m. Introduction to the Liberal Arts (ILA)

    • Core Groups 3, 8, 12, 17, 21-41 (except 24, 34, 37)
  • 12:45-1:45 p.m. Lunch

    • Core Groups 1-20, 24, 34, 37 (except 3, 8, 12, 17)
  • 1-4 p.m. Hospitality area - Library
  • 1:45-2:45 p.m. Departmental Overview II

    • Education majors must also attend the 1:45 p.m. session. All other students are encouraged to visit another department they are interested in.
  • 2 p.m. Campus Tours - meet in the Office of Admissions
  • 3-6 p.m. Orientation to Essential Technology. You will be attending this mandatory 1 hour session with your residence hall. Commuters and transfers, see below.

      • 3 p.m. - Getsch Hall residents
      • 4 p.m. - Edgren Hall residents
      • 5 p.m. - Nelson Hall residents
      • Monday, August 31, 1 p.m. - Bodien Hall residents
      • Monday, August 31, 2 p.m.- Transfers and Commuters
  • 3-4:30 p.m. Advisors available in office to meet with students
  • 3-5 p.m. Advising Central Open - CC314

    • Students unable to meet with their advisors may come to Advising Central for assistance.
  • Afternoon Parents, this is a great opportunity to take care of those last-minute residence halls needs or just relax and enjoy the Twin Cities.
  • 5:15-6:30 p.m. Dinner in the Dining Center (with RAs)
  • 6 p.m. Parents Banquet, RC Gym - Online registration is closed. Please call the Office of Alumni and Parent Services (651.638.6462 or 800.255.8706, ext. 6462) for ticket availability.
  • 7-8:30 p.m. The Big TV Challenge - Benson Great Hall

    • Join us as your favorite TV shows become reality. "Family Feud," "Biggest Loser," "Project Runway," and "Deal or No Deal" will make you the star! If you want to win, you and your Core Group will have to get creative.
  • 8:30 p.m. The After Party

    • Food, fun, and a top-secret location. Once you and your Core Group have finished The Big TV Challenge, you'll spend the rest of the evening enjoying food and fun.
  • 9:00 p.m. Transfer Event - Seminary Hill

Saturday, August 29

  • 9-10 a.m. Breakfast on your own in the Monson Dining Center
  • 10 a.m. Celebration and Commitment Service - Benson Great Hall
  • 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Lunch

    • Students and parents may eat in the Monson Dining Center or at a local restaurant.
  • Parents: This ends the parent track we've planned for you. We pray that as you leave Bethel's campus, you are assured that God has led your student to this place. We are committed to serving you and your student in the years to come.
  • 1 p.m. Core Group Activity and Transfer Picnic
  • 5-6:30 p.m. Dinner in the Monson Dining Center (with RAs)
  • 7-9 p.m. The Show (Benson Great Hall)

Sunday, August 30

  • 8-10 a.m. Breakfast in the West Parking Lot
  • 9 am-5 p.m. Day of Worship
  • 5-6:30 p.m. Dinner in the Monson Dining Center and Core Group debriefing

Monday, August 31

  • 10 a.m.-noon Assessment Testing
  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Bethel Opportunity Fair - Kresge Courtyard
  • 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Lunch - Monson Dining Center
  • 12:30-2 p.m. Advising Central Open - CC314
  • 1-3 p.m. Orientation to Essential Technology
