Communication Studies students become public speakers, media experts, youth ministers, web editors, interviewers, and researchers—just to name a few occupations. You will leave Bethel prepared for a lifetime of thoughtful professional and personal communication.

Communication is a thriving career field, and an excellent background for roles in media, business, law, ministry, public service, and education. To prepare you both personally and professionally, our department offers 2 majors—Communication Studies and Media Communication—each with a choice of emphasis tailored to your career plans.

Choices of Emphasis in Communication Studies:

  • Relational Communication
  • Rhetorical Studies
  • Organizational Communication

Choices of Emphasis in Media Communication:

  • Media Criticism
  • Media Production

Along with co-curricular opportunities in forensics, research, and broadcast production, you’ll find Bethel’s flexible, Christ-centered program a great route to becoming a skilled communicator.

Communication is one of the largest departments at Bethel, yet we retain a personal approach. In relatively small classes, you’ll enjoy mentoring from Christian faculty who bring a wide variety of professional experience.

We’re also committed to the importance of cross-cultural experiences, and urge every student to study or work off-campus in another culture for an interim or semester.
