New Orleans Mission Trip
Join fellow Bethel students to serve the culturally rich city of New Orleans in unexpected ways.
Date
March 9-17, 2013 (spring break)
Location
Our team will work in the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans—almost directly in the shadow of the Louisiana Superdome. Central City is a neighborhood rich in history and culture as well as hard-hit by poverty and tragedy.
The Experience
In New Orleans, we partner with a ministry organization that has strong ties with a local church, Castle Rock Community Church, in the Central City neighborhood. These organizations have a sweet dream to develop a neighborhood where kids can safely ride their bikes again.
Bethel students will follow the lead of local community members to do physical labor as well as build relationships to learn about what God is doing in historic New Orleans.
Our Ministry Partner
Urban Impact Ministries is a member of the Christian Community Development Association. CCDA is a network of Christians committed to seeing people and communities holistically restored—spiritually, emotionally, physically, economically, and socially. Not by offering mercy alone, but also by pursuing justice.
Who Should Participate
This trip is best suited for students interested in vocational ministry, community development, poverty relief, urban ministry, and biblical reconciliation. Prior experience in urban settings is helpful, but not required.
We look for students who can be flexible and adaptable because the on-site schedule is fluid and changing. Also, students must come with an open heart and be willing to sit at the feet of local leaders who may be different from them.
This is meaningful preparation for students interested in developing their understanding of the power of the gospel to transform lives and communities.
